Book Update + Stuff

I finally finished another book! For my birthday, my friend Gwen gave me a copy of The Summoning, by Kelly Armstrong. I read the prologue that night, but only just started reading it actively some time last week.
I finished it this morning, and I really liked it. I haven't read a book in a long time where I was bargaining with myself over going to bed. "Just one more chapter, then I'll go to bed. Ok, maybe one more..." It was nice. I would happily read the sequel (especially since this one left off at a cliffhanger!) once I have enough money to buy it.

In other news, I think that I'm going to change/replace several goals on my 101 List. I've got a couple on there that I just added because I couldn't think of anything else, or it was something that I thought it would be neat to do/learn, but wasn't actually interested in. I'll post with a fully up-to-date list as soon as I change it.

Edit
The following goals have been replaced:
25 - Watch/read 10 movies/book in German
52 - Learn CPR
53 - Learn how to tie a tie

With the following:
25 - Replace all of my VHS tapes with DVD versions
52 - Replace my Intous 3 with an Intous 4, when the time comes
53 - Save up for and buy a better TV

Coming Up:

My 365th day is coming up soon: October 4, to be exact. I plan to post on that day with all kinds of fun crap, but that day is not today. So, here's some other stuff:

Yesterday, I completed goal #36: Give blood.
My school had a blood drive all day yesterday. I signed up last week, and was super nervous all morning. I've donated both blood and plasma before, so I knew it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I am, apparently, a "hard stick." (I really want a button telling everyone so. x) ) My veins are small and fairly deep, so the nurses always have a hard time locating them. Which, if they're.. less than experienced, can hurt. A lot. And usually does. This time, I gave through Memorial Blood Centers, which I would highly recommend. Seriously, I've had sewing classes that hurt more than yesterday.
They had a really hard time finding my vein, though. The checked both arms multiple times, and nearly gave up. I told them, from the start, that I'm a right-arm giver. The first nurse checked it, then checked my left arm, and decided that she liked that one better. So she was searching, but couldn't find anything. So, she called over her superior (who was the one to stick me, in the end), and she looked, and didn't find anything. Then they called over the head nurse, who also couldn't find anything in my left arm. After a few minutes, she asked if they'd checked my right arm, and the original nurse said that she had. The head nurse poked my right arm, and went, "Oh. Right there." So, they set me up with my right arm, and I was finished up like 10 minutes later. They seriously spent more time looking for a vein than I actually spent giving.

Then, I had to run off pretty quick after I was given a bandage. Being a moron, I just grabbed a bunch of cookies and a Coke and walked off to my club. About 15 minutes later, I really regretted that. I nearly fainted, but I was able to save myself by sitting and eating delicious Oreos and lemon cookies. Om nom nom.

Goal 081: Complete!

Yesterday I went to a Twin's game with my knitting group. In total, it was me, Ginger, Kat, Amanda, and Emily, plus Ellie tagged along and knitted with us. I got a ticket with Joe Mauer on it. <3 He's my Twin's boyfriend, according to Kat.
Yesterday was the Stitch n' Pitch event, so you were supposed to bring your knitting to the game. I worked on my kitty-ear'd hat.

It was really fun, and I'm really looking forward to next year.

Cinema History

I started college the other day, as my last post said. One of the classes I'm taking is Cinema History, and we're watching a fair number of films.
So far, in that class, we've watched:
-The Great Train Robbery
-Intolerance
-The General
-Steamboat William Jr.

Next week, we're starting to watch Charlie Chaplin. I haven't ever actually seen anything by Chaplin, so I don't know if they're shorts or actual movies or what.

I'm also watching The Hulk right now, with John, so that'll be another movie I get to add.

Learning

I've completed my first learning goal: Get enrolled in college!
I'm going to Minneapolis Community and Technical College, in downtown. It has, so far, been wonderful. I love being back in school. It's really nice to talk to people I don't know, get out of the house, and, of course, learn stuff.
I'm taking Algebra, Cinema History, Human Geography, Future Shock and Survival, and Strategies for College.

Cinema History has actually lead me to seeing two new movies: The Great Train Robbery, and Intolerance. Both of these films were made in 1916 or earlier. I think Train Robbery was made in 1906 or something? It's only seven minutes long, but I count it as a movie because of its importance. It was one of the first films shot on location, and it was amazing for its time.

I'm doing a little bit of an overhaul on this blog. I want to make it look better, basically. We'll see how that goes.

More Movie Nights

So, since the last time I wrote about a girl's night, I've had another girl's night, plus we had a Star Wars marathon. So basically I've now seen 31/50 movies, and 3 of 6 Star Wars movies (we watched 4-6). The Star Wars movies count towards my 50, too.

27 - A New Hope
28 - The Empire Strikes Back
29 - Return of the Jedi
30 - Dirty Dancing: Havannah Nights
31 - 300

Apart from that, I counted the other day--23/101 completed, 20/101 in progress (I think).

Day 365 is coming up, too: October 4th.

Movies

I had a girl's night with a couple friends last night. Officially called a "chick flick night." We watched four movies, three of which I had never seen before:
Mamma Mia, Ten-Inch Hero, and The Holiday.

I really liked all three of them, particularly Ten-Inch Hero. It's pretty low-key, with a really sweet story. It also has Jensen Ackles in it, which is always a bonus. (Dean from Supernatural, for those who don't know.)

The other movie we watched was 10 Things I Hate About You, if anyone's interested.

Bluh. The "Move Out" goal is looking more and more appealing. My family is kind of terrible.

CONvergence, 2009

I got home from CONvergence 2009 yesterday afternoon.

Aside from rocking out loud, the con helped me work on a couple of goals:

I wore a skirt on the first day. And if a convention isn't public, I don't know what is.

I also saw two movies I hadn't seen before: Young Frankenstein, and Beetlejuice. I'm not certain of the spelling of the latter--I'm just using what the con wrote in the little grid.

I'll make a post soon saying exactly what is completed and in progress, by the way. I've made quite a bit of progress. :)

NaBloPoMo!

Today, I completed NoBloPoMo--National Blog Posting Month. Not quite as official as NaNoWriMo; it happens every month. But I completed it! Which means that goal #82 has been completed!

I also finished reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows the other day. A re-read, but very good. Now I'm on to American Gods, by Neil Gaiman.

I also changed up a couple more goals, so my major disadvantage. I took out a couple of goals that I had "in progress," and replaces them with goals that haven't been started yet.
The new goals:

47: Learn to throw a frisbee properly (replaced: Learn to read Tarot cards quickly and accurately)
51: Learn to start and maintain a campfire
52: Learn to Cross Stitch and complete a (small) project (replaced: Learn to recognize 10 local bird calls)
53: Learn to whistle with two fingers (replaced: Learn to recognize 10 constellations/stars)

Also, as of today, I have:
21/101 goals completed
23/101 goals in progress
57/101 goals not started at all yet.

I'm proud of myself.

Watchmen

I just realized that I didn't count Watchmen as a book when I finished it in March.
So... yeah. I'm adding that now. :)

Joy!

Joy! I just learned that the MacBook Pro that I'm saving up for (goal #56) not only went down in price, but the default RAM doubled! It's now 4gig instead of 2gig, and it starts at $1,699, rather than $1,999! This makes the goal much more reachable. I'm very excited.

I'm also going through and updating my list after I finish posting this. :3

Updates and figures

So, I've done a bit in regards to 101 in the last few days.

I went and saw Star Trek the other day, with John. I might have already written about this, but just in case, that's movie 17/50 for goal #22.
I also figured out how much it'll cost me to buy a brand-new Macbook Pro. With Apple Care, and minus the discount from my boyfriend's sister, it'll be about $2,136. Which is.. a lot. That's figuring in tax, too. I emailed my dad earlier today, asking him about matching me to help me pay for it, since it'll be great for school etc. No answer yet, but my fingers are crossed. If he does, I'll only need to pay $1,068. Which would be.. awesome. That goal (#56) is now in progress, by the way--I put 100$ towards it.

I also finished goal #101, think of 200 options for my next 101 in 1001 list. If you look over there ---->
{under February) you can see a link to it. Tell me what you think of it all.

Also, TimeToast was being a jerk and not letting me in. Hopefully it's working now. I'm going to go check now.

Unexpected goal time!

I completed an unexpected goal!
Goal #16, beat John at a first-person shooter.
He's teaching me how to play Time Splitters, a shooter for the Game Cube. A few weeks ago, he taught me the basics--how to move, aim, shoot, etc. Today, he had me practice some more, learn to use new weapons, and to use their specialties.
I won the first round, but only because he let me, basically. He taught me how to shoot by letting me shoot him. And then when I was one kill from winning, he started playing all-out, killed me like four times, until I finally got the last one.
In the next round, we played to 15 kills again. He let me have two kills, I think, but I got the other 13 by myself. He only killed me six times, I believe. So I won! I won when we were both honestly playing each other.

I'm very proud of myself.

Updates and Counts

Hello! Just a general update.

As I posted, I finished The Golden Compass. I'm most of the way through The Subtle Knife, but not quite. Once I'm done with that, it'll be the first book for my 'Read 5 banned books' goal.

I also watched Les Miserables, which counts towards my 50 previously unseen movies, and I watched Goodbye, Lenin!, which in in German, for anyone who doesn't know. This means that my 'watch/read 10 books/movies in German goal' has officially started. I'd seen it once before, though, so it doesn't count towards my 50 movies goal.

I counted it all up earlier today, and I found that I've got 13 goals completed, and 25 in progress, leaving only 63 completely untouched!
I'm very proud of myself. :3

The Golden Compass

I'd forgotten how awesome this book is. I just finished it for the second time ever; the first being when I was 12 or 13 or so.

This brings my book count up to eight, but it doesn't count towards the five banned books, since I'd read it once before. The next two, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass, will.

Day 200?!

I just realized that today is day 200 out of my 1001 days.
What does this mean?
It means that I am 20% done with my 1001 days.
It means that I should be done with 20 of my 101 goals. Or close to done, I suppose?

I'm actually done with... twelve. But! I have 24 in progress.
I calculated it out, and the following goals only require me to do one thing. Not necessarily in just one day, but just one thing:

1 - Get a new piercing
2 - Wear a 2-piece outside
18 - Read a trashy romance novel
20 - Buy merch from a webcomic I like
31 - Visit a chiropractor
33 - Move out
36 - Give blood
37 - Volunteer at HotB
38 - Go to a local concert
63 - Cover the front walk in chalk drawings
73 - Have a candlelit meal
76 - Kiss under mistletoe
77 - Go camping with friends only
78 - Go to a con outside MN
79 - Go to a con outside the midweat
80 - Go to a Wild’s game
81 - Go to a Twin’s or Saint’s game
85 - Go on a picnic
86 - Send a postcard to Post Secret
87 - Watch the sunrise with someone I love
88 - Watch the sunset with someone I love
89 - See the ocean
90 - Skinny dip
93 - Go indoor rock-climbing
94 - Be a secret santa
95 - Go bowling
97 - Visit a new state
99 - Go to RenFest
100 - Bake a Layered Cake

So maybe if I get a move on and just do some of these, I'll be more on track! I have a number of goals in progress that are so close to done. The ones I can think of off the top of my head are 'Keep a job,' and 'Update Loser Corner twice a week for six months.'
Some of them, I'm a little bit further off. I need to watch 38 movies still, for example. I need to read 43 books. Just.. for example.
I feel like I'm doing pretty well, though, all things considered.

Dancing!

This past weekend was Anime Detour! I had a table in the artist alley, and I had a lotta-lotta fun. Sold some stuff, and I broke even!
But the point of this post is that on Saturday night, me, John, Gwen, and Anna all went down to the dance/rave thingy. We had a lot blast, dancing and jumping around for a couple of hours. n__n Gwen threw me at John, my boyfriend.
This would render goal # 60 (go dancing/clubbing with friends) complete. :)

War for the Oaks

Ooooh!
I finished War for the Oaks earlier today. It was beautiful! I nearly cried at the end. >.<
The Phouka is so adorable! I really love him! I think it's a combination of word choice and the voice I gave him in my head. Also possibly because I imagined him looking somewhat like John, but darker and with black hair...?

Anyway.
Go read this book! It's great! Especially if you live in the Twin Cities!

RENT

Holy crap, y'all.
Rent was AMAZING.

I went and saw it tonight with my little sister. It was wonderful.
We had balcony seats, center-stage. We were fairly far back, but we had binoculars and such. Anthony Rapp was there! <3 Caps lock can not express my fangirly joy.
We waited by the stage door after the show, but neither Anthony nor Adam Pascal came out. Ellie and I did get our picture taken with the guy who played Angel.

I've.. gotta sleep now. Assuming I can.

I Capture the Castle

I finished I Capture the Castle last night. It was pretty good. The ending was pretty nice. I really liked the writing style. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something to read.

Locks of Love and reading

Grr. I just went and checked the Locks of Love website, to look at the requirements for donating hair. It looks like it's gone from eight to ten inches at minimum, which is slightly frustrating. But the real frustrating thing is I just found out they can't take hair that's been treated with bleach, even if it's been colored over.
Which...mine has.

I'm going to cut my hair soon--probably after Detour. I'm gonna cut all the blond off. Or.. all the "light" off. It isn't blond anymore, because I dyed over it. But then I'll have to wait for it to grow out again. Thing is, I don't know if I'll be able to grow my hair ten inches in time. Arrrrrgh. :/

In other news, I've been reading I Capture the Castle, by Dodie Smith (who apparently wrote 101 Dalmatians, I guess?). I like it so far. I'm between 3/4 and 4/5 done with it. I got the book when I was about 10 or 11, and this is my first time through it. :3
My boyfriends sister loaned me a copy of War for the Oaks or War of the Oaks or something. I can't remember the exact title, but it's set where I live, which is pretty cool. I've been told that the final encounter takes place at First Ave, so that sounds neat. I may put off reading it, though, because my little sister seems to have brought Dracula into the house, and I haven't read that, either.
I need to look into banned books. The only ones I know off the top of my head are Harry Potter, and His Dark Materials. The Golden Compass series, ne?

Watchmen

Holy crap. .___.
Yesterday, I both finished reading and saw Watchmen. I got tickets to a midnight showing with my boyfriend. It was really cool. It was a really good book, I really liked it. And the movie! Wow. It was so PRETTY. Though they certainly didn't skimp on the "graphic" part of "graphic novel." Lots of goo. Also sex. That sex scene was freaking long. Especially when you're next to not only your boyfriend, but also his sister and brother-in-law. >.<
In any case, two thumbs up. Though you should really read it before you see the movie. It'll make a little more sense.

Two New Movies!

Yesterday, I went over to the boyfriend's house, and I saw not one, but two movies I hadn't seen before.
First we watched Transformers (I know, please don't kill me! There are more important movies I haven't seen yet!) I really liked it. I just can't get that image of Monkey-Optimus Prime out of my head. From one of the TV versions of it from when I was a kid.
Then we ate some food and stuff. Then we watched Groundhog's Day. Which was actually pretty neat. It made the Supernatural episode of the same title more funny.

This makes my goal #9 (See 50 new movies) 10% complete!

FAFSA is a bitch

I just completed and submitted my FAFSA form. (Goal #27 is to get enrolled in school.) It was long and complicated and strange. But I did it! Hopefully they'll deem me poor enough to pay for my schooling. Or part of it, at least.

I was actually accepted to Minneapolis Community Technical College! (Herein "MCTC") But I haven't taken my placement tests, and I haven't chosen classes, so I'm not 'enrolled' yet. D:

I hope that, when we do move out, it's in Minneapolis. Maybe that'll make it easier to get to MCTC. I need to take like three buses, as is.

February General Update

I'm aware that February isn't quite over yet. But I partly love doing updates, and it's partly that I've got nothing else to do, and also that February is so gorram short.

Completed this month:
I participated in 'A Day in my Life' (goal #55)

In progress this month:
I typed up two of my ten quotes books (goal #8)
I saw four new movies - Ironman, Lady in the Water, Transformers, and Groundhog Day (goal #9)
I learned how to make homemade pizza (goal #29)
I've posted bi-weekly comics on Loser Corner, my webcomic. (goal #54)
I participated in Hourly Comic Day 2009 (goal #57)
I made/tossed homemade pizza (goal #88)
I bought tickets to see Rent live (complete with Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal!) (goal #92)
I've been finding ideas for my next 101 list. (goal #100)
Read a complete book (goal #93)
That book happened to be a Douglass Adams book (goal #95)

Not too terrible, if I say so myself.
